Eighth grade students at Renaissance Charter at Tradition were visited by Mr. Whiting, a Civil War reenactor who also happens to be a parent of one of our fourth grade students. He shared a video of one of the reenactments as well as artifacts and replicas of what soldiers had to carry into combat. Students then participated in a question and answer period after the presentation, and were able to try on some of the hats that were on display. Students learned that the weight of all the equipment that soldiers carried into the Civil War was between 50-60 lbs. This presentation compliments lessons students are currently learning in their Social Studies class.
